Last year during one of my trips to Target, I made a premeditated impulse buy. You know what I’m talking about. When you go to Target for one thing and find yourself in the beauty aisle looking at the new products you saw on Instagram. Although the SheaMoisture African Black Soap Body Lotion has been available for years, I finally decided to try it. This 13 oz. bottle of magic gives you the richness of a cream with the absorption of a lotion. Surprisingly, the combination of shea butter, mango seed butter, and cocoa butter does not leave skin my greasy or smelling like the pre-teen who discovered Palmer’s Cocoa Butter. When it comes to lotion I play no games. It must meet the following criteria:
- Does it smooth dry patches on my forearms and elbows?
- Can it eliminate cracked heals? (I love sandals, ya’ll)
- Are my feet ashy at the end of the day?
- Will my skin revert to extreme dryness if I skip two days without application?
And this lotion passes with flying colors. You know that sandpaper section at the fold of your derriere? Yeah, no more of that foolishness. No more crackles heels, bumpy forearms, or ashy legs. At the end of my shower I allow my body to partially air-dry, rub the lotion in my palms, and apply it. It does not feel slimy on damp skin or transfer oil onto my clothes. This is the butter lotion sistas have been waiting for!
But this packaging, though
I know you’re probably wondering why the image above has the product in a glass clamp jar? Well, after leaving two bottles turned upside-down for 72 hrs., this product defied gravity. After minutes of slamming the bottles on my countertop, I resorted to using a butcher knife to cut them open and transfer this pasty goodness to a glass jar; and this wasn’t to collect the remains. We’re talking new, full-sized bottles.
Should I be excited about the new formula?
A few weeks ago SheaMoisture announced that they are changing their packaging to squeeze bottles (insert church shout), so I immediately drove to Target. Unfortunately, they only had a 4 oz. hand cream in this collection, so I am awaiting the full 13 oz. squeeze bottle. Yes, the product is so good that I will wait.
They recently released the new formula with the new name Eczema & Psoriasis Therapy Body Lotion Medicated Moisturizer Calm & Clear, but I’m not foolin’ with that right now. When I saw two bottles of the old formula at HEB, I snatched them up quick. Since I am a beauty junkie, I will be trying the new formula sooner than later but now I’m sticking to the old one.
