There’s always been skepticism about the children’s bath and body category. I’ve heard remarks like “children are humans too, so they can use what we use” with opposing concerns about potential ingestion and overly fragrant products (natural and synthetic) causing skin irritation, and both points are valid. Like most unregulated terms on product labels, most brands have different standards of natural and safe. Jacq’s Organics is the first brand I’ve seen designed for the growing modern family, but what exactly does that mean? Is every product suitable for parents and infants? Do the fragrances have a unisex appeal? Or is it a one-stop-shop? Let’s find out.
Introduce yourself & why you do what you do.
My name is Barbara Jacques and I’m the founder of Jacq’s Organics, a plant-based all natural bath, body, and skin care brand created for growing families. When James and I learned we were expecting our daughter, like most couples expecting their first child, we were elated to hear the news; however, I soon discovered that I had an ovarian tumor.
Determined to not allow the news to take our joy, we decided to live our life and stay positive. Excited about the birth of our new baby, I wanted to learn everything I could about caring for our bundle of joy and my growing tumor. Driven by knowledge, I learned about many environmental toxins used in beauty and personal care products. I saw a need for products that were all natural, organic, family-friendly, environmentally safe, and moisturizing.
When my husband, James, saw my passion and drive to create bath products that didn’t contain harsh and toxic ingredients, he encouraged me to start Jacq’s Organics, which was born the same year my daugher was born.
Describe what sets Jacq’s Organics apart from other brands.
Our collection is created out of love, courage, and determination to be the change in a marketplace of non-environmentally conscious products. Sourcing raw, unrefined, and local ingredients and making artisanal products in small batches is a how we seek to be the change. As a result, our products contain pure, rich, and healing nutrients and vitamins free of synthetics fillers, harsh preservatives, or toxic additives.
Jacq’s Organics is designed for a growing modern family. Tell us more about what that means.
I would define the modern family as health conscious and informed consumers seeking to purchase more environmentally safe products. Gone are the days when men use only harsh drying soap bars. They are more conscious about what they use on their skin and how they look. Gone are the days when women use only one product line. We use an average of 12 products on our skin and moms are more mindful of what their families are using; we want the best.
How do you define natural and toxin-free?
Natural and toxin-free does not mean preservative free. To me, natural means ethically-sourced ingredients from local farmers. Toxin-free products do not contain cancer-causing and hormone-disrupting ingredients and preservatives for the sake of shelf-life. Our products are made with raw and organic natural ingredients and plant-based preservatives that are not laced with toxins.
What are the skin care concerns that your brand addresses?
The skin care concerns that we address include acne-prone skin, hyperpigmentation, eczema, dry skin, oily-combination skin, and dermatitis.
Why take the artisanal route vs. mass production?
We take pride in handcrafting and overseeing the production of our goods. Going the artisanal route provides us with more quality control and allows us to add our personal touch to each product we send to our customers.
What products does your brand entail?
We handcraft skin care products that include face serums, face toners, cleansing bars, body butters, face cleansers, preggo belly oil, preggo belly butter, bath bombs, exfoliators, and candles.
Getting into the Mix
Rosemary & Lime Face Cleanser: Is this a suds-free cleanser? Can it be used to remove makeup?
Our Rosemary & Lime Face Cleanser is a liquid face wash formulated with rich cleansing oils and cold pressed essential oils that gently remove dirt and residue. It’s not suds-free, but this refreshing and invigorating castile soap leaves your skin clean without causing dryness. It’ll remove makeup, but I advise using a makeup remover before cleansing and then following up with a toner to remove any excess residue after washing your face.
Bath bombs: All three of your bath bombs look divine. How do you make recommendations for each?
Bath bombs are fun, and the biggest misconception is that they’re for kids. Bath bombs are excellent for uplifting your mood, soothing the skin, and relieving sore muscles. Our bath bombs contain healing sea salt and moisturizing oils that leave your skin soft. Our in-house essential oil blend in each one of our bath bombs serves a purpose. Hibiscus and Aloe is soothing and floral, So Fresh, So Clean is invigorating and earthy, and Chocolate Coffee is refreshing and sweet.
Green Smoothie Face Scrub & Masque: How often would you recommend using this based on skin type?
You can have so much fun with our Green Smoothie Face Scrub & Masque. It is an at-home spa treatment that unclogs and minimizes pores.
- You can mix it with honey, water, floral water, fruit juice like pomegranate, yogurt, and even tea. Work it into a paste and apply it to clean skin.
- Once the mask has dried, use a warm washcloth to gently scrub your skin and then rinse.
Balancing Carrot Seed Face Serum: For those who live in hot and humid climates, do you recommend reserving this for nighttime use?
Yes, our Carrot Seed Face Serum is formulated to be used for all skin types in hot and cold climates.
- Beta-carotene, vitamins, and zinc provide healing properties.
- Vitamin C improves skin elasticity and collagen production.
- Vitamin E protects your skin from sun damage.
Research shows that using vitamin C and vitamin E together offers a substantial amount of protection from sun exposure. This light and refreshing product is perfect to use at the end of the day for clean and soft skin.
Do you plan to add facial moisturizers?
We have two face serums that work as face moisturizers. Our Carrot Seed Face Serum and our Sweet Orange Face Serum are highly concentrated and work to feed your skin nutrients where traditional moisturizer sit on the surface of the skin.
How do your customers inspire you?
My customers inspire me to share my story of survival every day and educate women about the systematic effect ingredients have on our overall health.
Share your skin care regimen.
My skin care regimen is very simple.
- Rosemary & Lime Face Cleanser
- Carrot Seed Face Toner
- Carrot Seed Face Serum
- Green Smoothie Face Masque + Scrub (weekly)
I’m a big advocate for treating and healing your skin from the inside out. Drinking my fruits and veggies as a morning or afternoon smoothie is a huge factor in my skin care regimen. They keep my skin glowing and help to clear up blemishes.
