“The most common source of unhappiness is unnecessarily continuing unsatisfactory situations.” Words from newbie blogger Elodie Aroura that resonate with me. When I read Golden Grey Matter, I think of the elusive ebbs and flows that we experience in life as young adults. We read Forbes 30 Under 30 and expect to have our lives figured out yesterday with six-figure salaries while manifesting all of our hearts passions on our own time. If we’re honest with ourselves about our work ethic, skills, and simply God’s calling and ordained timing, we may find answers. Along with being inspirational, Elodie’s skin is radiant, so I caught up with her to discuss how she maintains her smooth complexion.

My name is Elodie Aroura and I am a 20-year-old content creator & digital influencer currently based in Atlanta.
How has your skin changed over the years?
I have combination skin. Growing up I struggled with eczema that as a kid. Now that I’m older, I have occasional rashes, but it’s never as bad as it was when I was younger.
What do you love about your skin & what are your concerns?
I love how complicated my skin can be? Trying to figure out what’s best for my skin can be a challenge. It makes life interesting. I don’t have any concerns about my skin.
Walk us through your morning and nighttime regimens with your favorite products.
My morning and evening regimens are the exact same. I scrub my face with the Neutrogena Oil-free Acne Wash and then follow up with my shea butter to rehydrate my skin.
If you had to pick one product, what can you not live without?
Shea butter
How do you shop for skin care products and where?
I don’t usually shop around for the best skin care products. I’m honestly not the type to try out a ton of different products. My very minimal combination works for me, so I stick to that.
What’s your favorite brand and why?
Neutrogena at the moment. It’s the only product I’ve used that actually works.
Are there tips you can share that have changed your skin care practices?
I’d suggest drinking a ton of water. Water is the ultimate key to healthy skin.
How do you avoid a skin crisis?
I don’t avoid it. I’ve come to realize that things will happen in life and you can’t control the way your skin reacts, so you have to be patient with your skin and just be prepared for whatever. You honestly never know what will happen and when it will happen.
How do you pamper yourself?
I haven’t in years, but when I used to I would do DIY mask at home, turn on some music, maybe paint my nails, and just relax for a few hours.
What makes you feel beautiful?
I feel the most beautiful when I’m achieving goals. It sounds weird, but the way I look never compares to the way I feel when I achieve something. I feel like I’m on top of the world.
Who is your melancrush?
Justine Skye & Renell Medrano
